The southern counties provide easy access to London as well as miles of beautiful countryside, coastline and interesting cities. These include the ancient pilgrimage site of Canterbury, historic Oxford, and on the south coast, Portsmouth and its neighbour Southampton.
The waterfront city of Brighton has some of the finest Regency architecture in England. Famous for its West Pier and beach, and its exciting nightlife, the city is also a great place to shop. Don't miss the "Brighton Lanes", a maze of narrow streets and alleyways crammed with boutiques!
The South-West is known for its mild climate - even palm trees grow on Devon's English Riviera! The beautiful city of Bath is renowned for its Roman Baths, Georgian architecture and therapeutic waters. It's also the ideal base from which to explore the Somerset and Cotswolds countryside. Nearby is the vibrant city of Bristol, famed for its maritime history.
Wales has some of Britain's most spectacular coastal and mountain landscapes, not to forget its many castles. The capital, Cardiff, has one right in its centre, a symbol of Welsh heritage and its 2,000 year history. Visitors to the city will also enjoy a wide selection of shops, stylish restaurants and bars, and some stunning venues, such as the spectacular new Wales Millennium Centre, an arts centre in the redeveloped Cardiff Bay, and the Millennium Stadium, famous for its rugby.
