Austria

Vienna is Austria's capital and cultural centre. Whether you're looking for high culture, stunning buildings or simply indulgent chocolate cakes, this city on the Danube will not disappoint. The Habsburg Empire established a strong sense of art and music, which lives on in the city's architecture and the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
The city's wide boulevards are lined with Baroque palaces; it's also home to world renowned modern art in the Kunst Wien, Old Masters in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, wacky architecture in Hundertwasser's Kunsthaus Wien and the avant-garde Museum Quartier. Even the most dedicated of culture vultures will find themselves spoilt for choice in grand old Vienna.
At the heart of the Austrian Alps, Innsbruck also offers countless attractions, such as the magnificently sprawling Ambras Castle. Visit the Old Town to find Innsbruck's most characteristic landmark, the Golden Roof. A fascinating combination of tradition and modernity, the city is perfect for mountaineering, city strolls and Baroque operas.
